OK, I see why people like MX5s now.

The doner car was delivered today, and for a sight unseen eBay purchase turned out surprisingly well. As it still had a decent amount of fuel in it would have been wasteful to not use it, so did some hooning about on the gravel tracks and fields.

Even with the auto it’s a fun little car. Probably not so much on the road, but sliding round the concrete yard and some 45mph on the rough tracks was a laugh.

Runs perfectly, which is all we wanted, but it actually a bit better condition than I thought for a car that’s been laid up outside for the last six years. It’s vinyl wrapped, I guess they didn’t want to paint it after repairing the sills, and it’s nowhere nearly as rusty as I thought it would be.

It’s actually a little sad to know that it will be torn apart, but the van is a worthy receiver and maybe Matt can use the shell. Also, those farm tracks look like good fun. I’m having a bit of a hooning withdrawal after our Wales adventure. Tourist season has started and the roads are packed.

I bought it from the breakers yard, so it’s future wasn’t looking good. They were surprised someone bought it.

Save the grill and resell it, those are pretty popular among casual MX-5 owners, especially the older crowds who want to protect their A/C condenser and radiator from debris. Also, save the badge, I love the old Eunos badges.
